Considerations
If you are buying someone a bike as a gift, get a helmet for them at the same time. If they already own one, make sure it fits properly.
Check For Damage
If your current helmet has ever taken a hit, you should consider purchasing a new one. Helmets are designed to take a single impact. Any visible cracks means the helmet should be immediately replaced. If your helmet is aged between 3-5 years you should inspect it for damage and gradual degradation. As helmets age they become less effective.
Sizing
To select a helmet size, use a flexible tape measure to determine the circumference of the widest part of your head. This is generally just above the eyebrows, and around to the back of the head sitting just above the ears.
